Kean, Rible & Angelini Urge Residents to Complete Census
$400 Billion in Federal Funds at Stake for Local Communities

Senator Sean Kean, Assemblyman Dave Rible and Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini are strongly urging all residents to fill out the 2010 United States Census.
“The purpose of the census is to make sure that everyone residing in the United States is properly counted,” said Kean. “Encouraging residents to complete the survey will help to ensure that our area receives an accurate amount of appropriate resources.”
The census data helps to determine how the federal government allocates more than $400 billion to states and communities for the next 10 years. These funds are made available for projects such as hospitals, improving schools, building new roads, and expanding public transportation options as well as for grant programs including job training and social services.
“Failure to complete census forms can greatly impact communities,” said Rible. “If the response rate is low in an area, they may not receive their fair share of funding and may have to pay higher state and property taxes to make up the difference.”
The Census also affects the representation in Congress, in the New Jersey Legislature, and in many local areas. Census data is used to reapportion congressional seats and assure proper district representation in state and local governments.
“An accurate census count will help to ensure the residents of our community are fairly represented in all levels of government,” said Angelini. “Please make sure that everyone in your household is counted to help our communities receive our fair share of federal funds.”
For convenience, the federal government has made this year’s form one of the shortest Census forms in U.S. Census history. It asks only 10 questions and only takes about 10 minutes to complete.
