Legislative Redistricting
To account for changes in population, the state's 40 legislative districts are redrawn every 10 years based on the results of the Federal census. Towns are redistributed among the 40 districts to ensure that each district has a substantially equal population.
The last reapportionment of districts took place during the spring of 2001. This and the other newly configured districts were in effect starting with the 2001 elections.
